Cathedral City, California. The Cahuilla Indians were the original inhabitants of Cathedral City. In 1876 the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians established their reservation which encompasses 28% of Cathedral City. In 1850, Col. Henry Washington discovered that the area's canyons resembled the interior of a grand cathedral. Recording history, he named this canyon of mosaic architecture Cathedral Canyon.

The city was incorporated in 1981 and has since been dedicated to providing a quality lifestyle for those here now and those in the future. Strategically located, Cathedral City is a haven for expanding and relocating businesses. The city is the third largest in the Coachella Valley in population, retail sales and total taxable sales.

Cathedral City is filled with pride and confidence in its future. The city reflects a unique balance among small-town atmosphere; big-city conveniences and desert resort living.
