Many people say that Borrego Springs is what Palm Springs used to be 50 years ago - a peaceful, quiet, and relaxing community. The area is so peaceful that there are no stoplights in Borrego.

Borrego Springs holds festivals annually to celebrate the heritage and the natural beauty that surrounds the area. The Grapefruit Festival is held in February. Circle of Art takes place in March.  Peg Leg Liar's Contest at Peg Leg Smith Monument is in April.  Cinco de Mayo in May.  The Borrego Days Desert Festival, held the last week of October, is a celebration that marks the official kickoff of the tourism season.

Borrego Springs is surrounded by the largest state park in the contiguous United States, the   Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, part of the Colorado Desert. About 900 square miles in size the park is home to hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, 12 wilderness areas and many species of wildlife such as golden eagles, mule deer and big horn sheep.
